Zhou Mengxuan became one of the winners of the II International Competition of Illustrated Essays

From January 1 to February 28, 2023, the II International Illustrated Essays Competition "I want to say about this..." was held at the Belarusian State Economic University. Foreign students, master students, and postgraduates who study Russian took part in the event. The geography of the competition turned out to be very extensive. Representatives of 35 countries competed: Australia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Afghanistan, Belarus, Benin, Bolivia, Vietnam, Haiti, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Egypt, Zambia, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Ivory Coast, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Morocco, Mongolia, Myanmar, Moldova, Nigeria, Sudan, Russia, USA, Taiwan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Ecuador, South Korea, and Japan.

The topics covered in the writings were diverse. The contestants wrote about nature, ecology, travelling, mutual understanding, intercultural dialogue, tolerance, art, profession, medicine, happiness, parents, hobbies, etiquette, etc. The purpose of the competition was to improve the culture of written speech of foreign students, expand their outlook, develop creative abilities, and increase motivation to study the Russian language.

The jury of the competition evaluated the works of 135 students from 33 universities and schools of Belarus and countries of near and far abroad: Minsk, Gorki, Grodno, Polotsk (Belarus); Belgorod, Vladivostok, Kazan, St.Petersburg, Saratov, Novosibirsk, Moscow (Russia), Hoabin (Vietnam), Elista (Republic of Kalmykia), Taipei (Taiwan), Tokyo (Japan), Ulan Bator (Mongolia), Beijing, Changchun, Guizhou (China), and many others.

Based on the decision of the expert commission, the winners and nominees of the competition were determined.

Zhou Mengxuan is in his 2nd year at the Faculty of Economics. He took the 1st place in the individual championship for his essay "Tastes and Smells." Senior Lecturer of the Department of Linguistic Disciplines of the Faculty of International Relations and Pre-University Education E.A. Safronova was his supervisor.
