Russia - Belarus: The Union of Equals
April 2 is the Day of celebration the Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia. On this day in 1996, the presidents of Russia and Belarus - Boris Yeltsin and Alexander Lukashenko - signed an agreement in Moscow on the formation of the Community of Belarus and Russia. In the same year, the Supreme Council of the Community decided to establish the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia.
One year later, on April 2, 1997, the Treaty "On the Union of Belarus and Russia" was signed, which gave a new impetus to the process of integration of the two countries. On December 8, 1999, the Treaty on the Creation of the Union State was signed and the Programme of Action of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation for the implementation of the provisions of the Treaty on the Creation of the Union State was approved.
In the reading room of the BSAA D. R. Novikov library an exhibition is being presented dedicated to the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia, "Russia - Belarus: Union of Equals." It consists of several sections: "Russia and Belarus: aspects of socio-economic development"; "In the vastness of Russia"; "The Land of Belarus".
The exhibition presents materials on socio-economic, cultural and political cooperation between the two countries, as well as books reflecting the cultural characteristics of each country.
The publications reflect the milestones in the development of Belarus as a strong and independent state, ready for mutually beneficial cooperation with neighboring countries. Printed materials dedicated to the past anniversaries since the founding of the Union State are presented. Among them there are the publication "Union State: 10 Years," "Commonwealth of Independent States: 15 Years," the article "The Way of Unification. 25 years together," published in the newspaper" SB. Belarus today "December 5, 2024. In addition to newspaper materials, the exhibition is decorated with issues of the monthly magazine "Union State," covering multilateral cooperation between Belarus and Russia.
