When the result of work is not only graphics and tables

Any science degrades without practical application. Irina Baeva, head of the educational and research genetic laboratory of the Belarusian State Ag-ricultural Academy, agrees with this statement

Irina Evgenievna is convinced that development and research should receive practical implementation. Otherwise, it's just theory.

Irina's perseverance and determination were assessed at the highest level. Not so long ago, she appeared in the top 22 Belarusian scientists list who represent different areas of domestic science. The Higher Attestation Commission announced the winners of the 2023 competition for the best thesis. Irina Baeva Among them was in the nomination "Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences." Her work is devoted to the selection of tomato hybrids. The emphasis is on the adaptability of the crop and the ability to produce a stable crop, despite climatic conditions, to show resistance to diseases and pests.

- I went from a student to a candidate of agricultural sciences at BSAA. I had an interest in scientific research in my first year. I wrote articles, spoke at conferences, and even then there was an idea to connect my life with research.

For more than 10 years, I have been creating new varieties and hybrids of tomatoes. Successful cultivation of this crop is hindered by the effects of diseases and pests. The use of chemical protective equipment has a detrimental effect on human health. Therefore, the purpose of my research was to create heterosis hybrids of tomatoes with disease resistance genes, - notes Irina Baeva.

Irina considers academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Alexander Kilchevsky to be her ideological inspirer. It was under his sensitive leadership that all the necessary research was carried out.

- The result of the work was not only graphics, tables and lawfulness, but also three created hybrids resistant to cladosporiosis and blight. And we are not going to stop there", says the heroine of the material.

Irina Baeva notes that the laboratory she heads was opened in 2014. It is constantly expanding, modern equipment is being purchased, and this allows new research. Therefore, the future of science depends not only on the potential of the researcher, but also on technical capabilities and financial support. All this is a priority in BSAA.
