The Faculty of Agronomy is 95 years old!

From 2 to 6 November, 2020, the Faculty of Agronomy was celebrating its 95th anniver-sary. The programme of festive events was rich and diverse.

In the lobby of the training building No.10 there was an exhibition "Agronomy faculty through the eyes of its students." At the exhibition, visitors could get acquainted with the crea-tive works of the students. The authors demonstrated their artistic talents, as well as talents in the field of photography and handicraft.

On the 2nd of November, 2020, a scientific and practical conference "Relevant issues of crop production" was held. The conference was attended by the students of the 1st-3rd year. The students presented reports on relevant topics related to the assessment of the collections of French beans and sown oats, as well as on the diversity of flax samples' seed size. They also touched upon the use of genetically modified objects in plant breeding.

On the same day, the sporting competition "AGRO - healthy way of life" was held at BSAA sports centre. Both students and teachers took part. The aim of the event was to promote a healthy lifestyle. Participating teams were actively supported by fans.

The most active students in the social, cultural, managerial and scientific life at the faculty and in the academy had a chance to go on an excursion to Mir and Nesvizh.

On November 4, the intellectual game "My Favorite Faculty" took place. The game was very exciting. Student teams not only showed their knowledge, but also learned a lot of new things about their faculty.

On the same day, the quest "Mysterious Academy" was held, covering the entire area of Academy campus. To achieve the goal, the participants had to follow a certain route, overcoming some difficulties in their path.

Meanwhile, in resident halls No. 2 and No. 9, in order to improve living conditions, the challenge was held "Who is the owner of the house?!." The competition consisted of two nominations: the best room and the best cook.

When evaluating the room, its sanitary condition and cozy atmosphere were taken into account. To receive the title of best cook, the commission evaluated the design of the dish as well as its taste and quality.

At the end of such a busy day, a movie night was organized. The film "Kingsman: Secret Service." was chosen for students to relax after a busy day. They discussed the film, shared their thoughts and impressions of watching the picture. It turned out to be a beautiful evening in a great company.

The contest on the specialty was held on November 5. The competition was a demonstra-tion of the students' professional skills. Based on their knowledge, the contestants had to deter-mine the types of grain crops according to their morphological features, distinguish grain and pulses crops by their seeds, determine the types of cereal and leguminous perennial herbs, as well as distinguish between species of weed plants and thresholds of their harmfulness.

On the same day, a beauty contest "New icon" was held at BSAA Cultural Centre. This was a great opportunity to realize dreams and ambitions on stage. The preparation for the compe-tition was not easy at all, but the result exceeded all expectations. Each of the participants demonstrated not only personal beauty, but their talents, their intellectual abilities as well.

From the morning of November 6, 2020, an exhibition of scientific achievements and an exhibition-tasting "Agronomy faculty greets you!" were operating in the lobby of No.10 training building. The exhibitions presented the achievements of research activities of the departments of agronomy faculty. Guests of our event also provided their products. Everyone wishing could try all samples and evaluate the taste.

From 10 o'clock on the square near the Cultural Centre, a trade fair functioned, where lead-ing enterprises of the republic presented their assortment. Everyone could purchase high-quality products at the prices of the manufacturer.

At the initiative of A.Taranov, Director of the Institute of Fruit Farming of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1998 BSAA graduate), a walnut tree was planted near No. 10 training building in honor of the 95th anniversary of the agronomy faculty.

At the department of agriculture, the ceremonial opening of laboratory of precision agricul-ture of LLC "Agricultural Technologies" took place. The latest samples of equipment for preci-sion farming was presented.

The main attraction of the festive programme was the solemn meeting "Agronomy faculty - 95!", which was held at the Cultural Centre of BSAA. It was attended by the best graduates of the Faculty of Agronomy, faculty workers, and the management of the Academy, and, of course, by the students of the faculty. The best students and teachers were awarded honorary diplomas for their achievements in scientific and social life of the faculty and the Academy.

After the solemn meeting, Vitebskoblgaz company presented a rich concert programme in honor of the 95th anniversary of the Faculty of Agronomy as a gift. The students of our faculty also participated in the concert.

The festive evening was ended by a disco with an interesting programme, modern music, and incendiary dances.
