Faculty of Agriecology

The Faculty of Agriecology was established in 1996. The faculty departments have their glorious history and old traditions.

In 1873 in Gorki Professor K. Shmidt organized one of the first chemical laboratories in Europe.

In 1879 in Gorki M. Rytov, an outstanding Russian scientist-agribiologist in the field of vegetable and fruit growing, began his activity. He is considered the father of Russian scientific horticulture and gardening. In August, 1920 in Goretski Agricultural Institute the Department of Vegetable and Fruit Growing was created.

The Department of Agrichemistry was organized in 1921 by Academician Oscar Kedrov-Zihman, whose works on chemical land reclamation are known all over the world.

The Department of Soil Science was organized in the same year by Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Y. Afanasjev.

In 1934 the Faculty of Agrichemistry and Soil Science was set up. It was headed by V. Tennisovich, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor, Honoured Scientist of the BSSR.

In 1945 the Department of Entomology and Phytopathology was organized. Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor A. Sobolev became the first head of the department.

In 1965 in the BSAA a radioisotope laboratory was created, and in 1991 on its basis the Department of Agricultural Radiology was organized. It was headed by Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Associate Professor V. Kozhushko.

The Department of Biotechnology and Ecology was set up in 1988 by A. Kilchevsky, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor.

In 2003 the specialty "Plant Protection and Quarantine" was opened, in 2004 - "Agricultural Ecology", in 2005 - "Vegetable and Fruit Growing (short course of study) and the specialization "Landscape Gardening", and in 2011 - the specialization "Storage and Primary Processing of Fruit and Vegetable (short course of study)".

In 16 years more than 2440 highly qualified specialists have graduated from this faculty, and more than 190 students have got honors diplomas.

The faculty students receive training in the following specialties: "Agrichemistry and Soil Science", "Plant Protection and Quarantine", "Fruit and Vegetable Growing", "Agricultural Ecology" and specializations: "Landscape Gardening", "Storage and Primary Processing of Fruit and Vegetable".
